Ineos insist there will be no fuel shortages
Company spokesman Richard Longden said: “If the general public buy fuel normally, there won’t be a problem.”
He added: “There will be disruption but we are doing everything in our powers to minimise any disruption there will be to the motorist.”
The strike over proposed pension changes is due to start on Sunday.
Mr Longden went on: “We are working with the government and with BP to put contingency plans in place to make sure that there is sufficient fuel.
“This plant has never been closed like this before. The unions are forcing us to take the plant right down so that it is actually what they call cold.
“That means that we will have to stop all production at the site. Clearly we are a major supplier of fuel to Scotland and so there will be disruption but we are doing everything in our powers to minimise any disruption there will be to the motorist.
“We have absolutely bent over backwards. We’ve shown flexibility and made concessions on every major concern raised about the proposed changes.”
